About Christmas time 2003 B&W introduced its 700 Series of loudspeakers. It
replaced the long established and respected CDM Series. All of us B&W folks were very
excited about the introduction. But B&W slightly took the wind out of our sails
because they were perpetually back ordered! Here we are several months later and finally,
the pipeline is filled and we actually have speakers to sell.
All models are efficient enough to be run by amps as small as the Rotel Euro
Series!
703 $3300pr
The 703 is one of the best values in the audiophile speaker world. Its level of
refinement is quite exceptional for the price. 703 starts with a 1" thick MDF cabinet
which is NOT a rectangle. Consequently cabinet thumping is not an issue in the
speakers sound. Using two 6 ½" Kevlar/pulp fiber woofers delivers deep,
powerful bass that doesnt break up when driven hard. It is a terrific blend of gutsy
performance without the boom.
The midrange of the 703 may be the most exciting thing in the list of
exceptional components. The 703 uses B&Ws surroundless midrange driver- which is
also used in its more pricy 800 series. The attack and transparency this element can
produce rivals the most esoteric of panels. When you add in the open air aluminum tweeter
with Nautilus tapered tube technology, you have a speaker as transparent as they come-
without taking up a big footprint in your room. 703 is available in five real wood
finishes, so theres sure to be some finish youll like!
704 $2400pr
The 704 is perhaps the most popular seller in the line. It uses the same cabinet
as 703. While not quite as clean as the 703 because it doesnt use the surroundless
midrange driver, 704 is very detailed and only when you have the 703 nearby- will you miss
it. 704 uses one of the woofers of the 703, a Kevlar mid with surround, and the same 703
tweeter design. 704 is earning the reputation of being beautiful, smooth and warm. Also
available in five real wood finishes, 704 is conspicuously the best choice in the popular
$2000pr speaker neighborhood.
