Magnepan Loudspeakers

   Magnepan of Minnesota (founded 1969) makes very low mass diaphragm panel speakers. Planar Magnetic technology uses .0005” mylar diaphragms. Quasi Ribbons are foil adhered to mylar.  The True Ribbons consist of pure aluminum diaphragms with magnets on each side, providing optimal push-pull control (magnepan.com for details). These are not electrostatics and do not require transformers. Due to the height of the speaker, controlled directly by long magnets, the sonic image is quite life-sized. Magnepans need some muscle, a garden variety receiver won’t do the job. Stop in to hear for the Maggies for yourself!
