B&W has been working on the PV-1 powered sub for several years. About a year ago they said it will be real soon and then… said they wanted to make it a little better. That set back the delivery date about six months.

But alas, good things are worth the wait. The PV-1 has just arrived and survived the opening salvos we’ve thrown at it.

If you know B&W, you know they won’t produce a generic product. This isn’t a $500 sub in a pretty case for $1600. Many companies do precisely that. If you go through the home entertainment magazines out there, you’ll see many cute, "upscale" subs that don’t perform as well as B&Ws ASW-608, a killer of a sub for only $500!

PV-1 (Pressure Vessel) is 13 1/4h, 11 3/8w, 13 3/4d, 45lbs. The system incorporates (two) opposing 8" aluminum, long throw woofs and a 500w amp! It has line and speaker level connections. It is silver with gray trim. Measures -6dB at 18Hz!

PV-1 attacks physics like a bubble- adopting form with the least amount of surface area, a sphere with no corners. The air pressure inside a bubble pushes outwards, equally in all directions, but surface tension balances the air pressure out and holds the bubble together evenly, all the way around. No corners. No straight lines.

Finally, a small sub, with style, that sounds deep and musical. It’s pretty enough to be used in a "lifestyle" system, but serious enough for those of us who want great music. It’s a natural mate to B&W’s impressive FPM plasma speakers!
