SuperNait Is Super! Naim’s SuperNait Integrated amp $5000, 80 w/ch,
has been out less than a year. Some of us are a little slow to the party. That would be
me. This is a fantabulously great integrated amp. Why? Well, first of all the SuperNait is a very gutsy
sounding amp. If you listen to SuperNait and pretend you are listening to 250 w/ch of your
favorite esoteric amplifier, you’ll have no trouble fooling yourself. The bass impact
is so solid that you’ll be astonished. I promise. What does 250 w/ch of Bryston, BAT and the other
serious players run? Bryston runs 300w/ch for $4100, BAT runs 250 w/ch for $9k. Those are
power amp prices alone. Commensurate preamps are about the same money. Are we really
telling you that the SuperNait is competitive with these other big dogs for less than $5k.
Yup! Technically, the SuperNait power amp section is
basically Naim’s NAP-200 which sells for $3k. Included is basically the NAC-202
preamp which sells for $3k. That makes the SuperNait a pretty good value, huh? But there’s
more. What really makes the SuperNait SUPER goes beyond a
fine preamp/amp package for $4450. That would have been enough. But there is a crowning
jewel hiding in the SuperNait. That’s the built in DAC! SuperNait is so super that it makes your CD player
better! Yes, it really does. You can have a virtually generic CD player with a Coax or
Toslink output, run that signal into the SuperNait’s digital input, and instantly you’ve
improved your CD player from an old family sedan into a high performance sports car! The
biggest improvement you’ll notice is in the bass impact, clarity and transient attack
of your music. It won’t be subtle! The same benefits exist on other digital sources
too. We don’t expect you to take our word for it,
although you can. After all, if we were making all these big claims and the product didn’t
measure up, you might not trust us on other product advice. So come in to listen for
yourself. Toss the SuperNait on a pair of B&W 805s or 804s and get ready to be blown
away! We’ll attach a review for those of you who have to read something from an
“outside expert.” But rest assured, you’ll know when you hear it that the
SuperNait is indeed super! |
