Why you should buy your flat panel from us!
There are a zillion places for you to
buy a flat screen TV today. But you should buy it from us!
The first reason is that we can help you find the right product. With
all the options out there, which should you buy? Did you know that not all flat panels are
created equal? Even if you stick within one technology, like plasma, there are big
variations in performance. There are large differences among brands and large differences
between two “lines” within the same company. There are differences within the same line within a model line up. We can show you
examples in person, for real. Webworld can’t do that.
People readily accept that a Yugo isn’t built as well as a
Mercedes. They’re both cars but that’s where the similarity ends. You can make
the same distinction with flat panels. Some flat panels are built very well, with hearty
power supplies and a metal chassis that should last reliably for years. Many others are
notorious for having flimsy transformers and power supplies. You’re lucky to make it
through the warranty period of one year. Plastic cases require stronger, louder,
multi-speed, whining fans to move enough air to keep the unit cool enough to be safe. Fans
diminish in strength over time. They get noisier. They rattle. What might be borderline
acceptable today could be downright obnoxious in 2-3 years! Just like your computer fan!
Would it surprise you to know that most companies don’t build
panels to last for 20 years? Most companies build them to last through the one year
warranty period! If enough of them make it past a year the manufacturer will happily
accept a certain failure rate. How would YOU know which is which?
How would a reviewer who sees ONE sample of a panel know about the
reliability of a large sample sold? HE isn’t the one who will have to face you when
the TV he recommended breaks in 13 months and needs a $500 repair. HE doesn’t get his
hands on many samples of a design to see IF THEY ACTUALLY WORK. He only knows about the
one panel that was cherry picked and tweaked- sent in for review. That’s not the same panel mass production sends to your
house. He isn’t concerned about earning your trust for future business.
Did you know that many flat panel companies flat out fib in their
advertising? Did you know that “LED TVs” are not actually LED TVs?!
What is the warranty on the flat panel you are considering? Will it
include labor after 90 days? If it needs service, what is the procedure? Where does it
physically go? How does it get there? What care is taken to be sure it isn’t dinged
up in the process of being shuffled from one place to another? How long will you have to
wait for parts? How many TVs (VCRs, Camcorders etc) are in line ahead of you when you get
there? Do you know who you are taking it to? Do they give a hoot about YOU? What incentive
does the repair center have to fix the unit properly and promptly for you? If repairs are
done, will they be done RIGHT? Will you get a repaired panel back that works, but doesn’t
work as well as it should?
We hear the horror stories. We get the phone calls. A couple years
back somehow we were listed as a repair center
for LG (whom we’ve never dealt with). The phone rang all day till we got them to take
us off their list. “You don’t fix them?! Well you’re listed as the repair
center? I spent $3000 for this TV! What am I supposed to do?!”
