Echobusters
Most of us have rectangular rooms. They are typically comprised of drywall walls that are very lively. Most of us have carpet and some furniture to absorb SOME resonance. But, the typical listening room is not very good. If you go to Skywalker Ranch (Ive been) and listen to their theater and spiel, theyll tell you they want NO resonance or reverb in your room because THEY PUT the amount of ambience in the recording that they want. They dont want you to bugger it up with a room as lively as a gymnasium! That said, the Skywalker theater is completely dead, all surfaces everywhere- your words stop a foot in front of your face. Can you imagine telling your wife Were going to carpet the entire room honey.? She would love it on the walls and ceiling, no doubt. The cost would be THOUSANDS and because of the nature of sound, carpet doesnt help bass boom and a number of other characteristics. We experimented with Sonex and several other materials over the years. There was NO good way to mount the stuff- You want us to GLUE that 2x2 chunk of foam to the wall?! RPG diffusion panels cost more than your speakers. There just wasnt a good way to deal with the problems of room resonance. Hence we told customers to drape the room as much as possible- it would help at some frequencies. Even so, a 8 long, 8 tall run of heavy pleated drapes runs about $1k. If you do 3-4 walls, 3-4k. Echobusters Echobusters makes several products. Echobusters ABSORB sound - they are typically placed
behind your speakers and on the side wall - you want to kill that first reflection
especially! Mounting Echobusters and Doublebusters requires one tiny nail - hang them like pictures and youre done! Bassbusters sit right on the floor. Cornerbusters have self adhesive or can be nailed in. The ideal set up for most lively rooms is: $2110
