Bryston CD
(BCD-1) Player Soon To Land! Introductory Price $2300!
Bryston has been threatening for years to come out
with a CD player. They say they will begin shipping in June. I think they mean June 2007!
Its
a red book player, no DVD, no SACD, no DVDa. Available in black or silver. RCA and XLR
analog outs. Digital Coax, Optical and XLR outs.
Bryston
feels a one chassis player is ideal for state of the art performance because this is the
best way to eliminate jitter- since the master clock will be the same for the DAC and the
transport.
Employing
the Crystal CS4398 chipset as the DAC, Bryston still chooses to buffer and amplify outside
the domain of the chip. Hence theyve created their own DISCRETE, CLASS A op amps.
Using mil spec parts and hand assembly puts the icing on the cake for the BCD-1. We
cant wait to get production units on hand!
Pricing
will go to $2500 soon!
New B&W
600 Series! In Black and Dark Cherry: Due in Soon! (Walnut later)
In
the mid 90s B&W introduced its extremely successful 600 Series. The 600s Series
trickled down lots of cutting edge technology to affordable prices. 600s set new
performance standards with technology, not smoke and mirrors.
For
example, the 600 Series used one inch thick cabinets. It used cast frame drivers. It used
aluminum domed tweets- later with the Nautilus loading tapering technology. It used Kevlar
mid drivers. It used aluminum woofs. It used subs with discrete amps and crossovers that
you could flip a switch and bypass (so the one in your receiver would do the work it was
supposed to!). It had thick internal bracing. It had Flowport porting design with golf
ball like dimples to reduce chuffing. There were many things the 600s used that nobody
else did at the time- or even does today!
Over
the past dozen plus years B&W has touched up the 600s. It has made
evolutionary mods. As these modifications have been employed B&W has designated new
models, S2 (Series 2), S3, etc. After refining these speakers for many years theyve
finally felt their improvements are great enough to demand new model numbers for another
generation.
So,
the model numbers will be all new. Technology will be improved. Price points will be very
similar!
New Tweets!
The
new aluminum domed tweets will have a unique rolled surround. The damping of the surround
of the tweet minimizes ringing and yet extends high end response. The result is a more
extended upper end- but they dont sound as bright. B&W has long been popular
with listeners who prefer a smooth British top end- as opposed to the zingy,
aggressive top end that is predominant in our business today.
The
tweets still employ B&Ws patented Nautilus design tapered technology.
New Magnets
New,
higher powered, smaller sized neodymium (not standard ceramic) magnets are used throughout
the line.
Fixed
Bullets
Mid
and woof drivers now ride on a fixed bullet guide to control linearity.
New
Crossovers
Due
to new driver designs a minimalist crossover of higher parts than ever has been
introduced.
Surroundless
Midrange Driver
For
the first time B&Ws famous FST driver finds its way into the 600 Series- with
the 683 for $1400pr! Its also used in the new HTM-61 center, $600 ea.
