“Beautifully Honest”

Amphion (one of Zeus’s sons) of Finland, is well known in the pro world for making among the most transparent studio monitors available. Amphion is appreciated by many mixing pros for their ability to allow them to DO THEIR WORK- precisely, efficiently and with consistently accurate results. Amphion is often an important tool in the chain of making music and movie sound its best.

Amphion has an enviable reputation for spectacular imaging, lucidity and musically emotional involvement. Due to its unique Wave Guide Titanium Tweeter system, Amphion speakers are noted for presenting an extremely expansive window in which to enjoy your music. It’s the opposite of a stat where X marks the spot for a sweet spot. Further, Amphion uses ABRs (acoustic bass radiators) instead of ports, on higher end models, which makes them interact LESS with a poor room than vented speakers. Amphion makes residential models that sound as resolving as their pro monitors, but are finished beautifully for the home.

If you value a huge, airy and spacious sound full of sparkle, Amphion is up your alley. The Argon Series offers superlative refinement at affordable pricing.

Enter the Argon Series

Argon is Amphion’s home speaker range to provide a large, clear perspective for your music. The pricing is surprisingly reasonable.

Wave Guide Titanium Tweeters

Amphion’s trademark is its Wave Guide Titanium Tweeter design. The Amphion Wave Guide provides tremendously wide dispersion which makes it effective in almost any room. Broad dispersion means you don’t have just one sweet chair where X marks the spot. You can listen in a wide array of locations and the room character will affect the sound less than with a traditional tweeter. Further, Amphion’s design employs the tweeter at a less intrusive, lower frequency (1600Hz) than the vast majority of other companies to deliver a seamless driver blend.

Aluminum Bass/Mid Drivers

Amphion bass/mid drivers are made of strong Aluminum. While there are several models, the most popular models have 6.5” Aluminum cones.

ABRs

Amphion believes strongly in using Acoustic Bass Radiators instead of tubed ports. They believe ports color not only the bass, but also the vital midrange frequencies. All porting tubes themselves have a certain pitch. Amphion has done exhaustive studies and has determined that all ports are “off pitch” and pollute midrange purity. Amphion feels that passive radiators maintain proper timing while ports cannot. The resulting bass control makes Amphion work well in traditionally bad listening rooms which have a propensity to exaggerate bass. Amphion avoids the boom.

Crossovers

Amphion crossovers use extremely high end parts. They even use silver plated copper wire for superior clarity, compared to using copper alone. Crossovers are run at 1600Hz to deliver seamless voicing. Most companies cross over at higher frequencies which makes their intrusion more noticeable.

Cabinets

Amphion cabinets are Diamond Tool, CNC machined- and even assembled with a vacuum process. Getting the cabinets cut precisely, both for wall alignment and driver fitting, is part of the fine tuning that yields uniquely Amphion performance. You can see several videos on their site of the precise driver fitting. Please note how the gibbous baffle of the tweeter is dovetailed into the speaker face with precision turning- instead of standard screw mounting. Paying attention to this level of detail eliminates extraneous resonance that will obfuscate a speakers detail.

Amphion Reference Speaker

Krypton 3X $24,000 Per Pair, Black, White. $25,000 pr. Walnut

(53.94h, 9.45w, 18.5d, 89 dB, 4 ohms, 159 lbs)

Amphion’s Reference Speaker, Krypton 3X, is 15 years in the making and unlike any other speaker on the market! It has the heft and soundstage you would expect from a full figured speaker. But even more so, it is effective due to its unique CARDIOD midrange dispersion pattern.

Amphion has created a cardiod midrange dispersion pattern that largely negates the effect of reflections that occur in a normal listening room- by up to 20dBs. The vast majority of us listen in rooms that are far too reflective to allow us to hear music as it was intended to be heard. We hear the ringing artifacts of the room itself. These artifacts smear the music. Amphion has controlled the dispersion to allow Krypton 3 to “beat” your room’s limitations.

Krypton 3X uses Amphion’s renowned Wave Guide design with 1” Titanium tweeter.

It uses two 8” pulp/papyrus midrange drivers configured with Amphion’s cardiod design.

Each 8 is in its own chamber and is side vented- awesome!

It uses a massive 10” side firing Aluminum woofer.

The crossover is characteristically Amphion with 160Hz and 1600Hz points.

Krypton 3X is no shrinking violet. At 159 lbs, Krypton 3X can BRING IT! If you want lifelike scale size and power of image in your listening room, Krypton X is up to the task.

Amphion’s UDD (Uniformly Directive Diffusion) technique creates more uniform dispersion of sound waves. Anomalies caused by reflections from the walls and floor are greatly minimized. Krypton 3X behaves as a TRUE POINT SOURCE above 160Hz.

Amphion manufactures its midrange diaphragms in house. The 8” drivers create the weight you would expect from an 8, but have imaging specificity of 4s. Each 8 works within its own chamber which are side vented to eschew boxy coloration and create the cardiod dispersion pattern.

Krypton 3X will also sound good in a small room, which is a big advantage throughout the majority of Europe. Though in the USA we expect most K3X buyers to have good sized rooms.

Krypton 3X casts a wide and deep soundstage with precision instrument location. It provides superb delineation without being bright or splashy. If you’re after a speaker that can create the lifelike scale of music, without the proclivity to sound bright and aggressive, K3X is right up your alley!

Amphion Helium Series

Helium 520 Towers $3200 Per Pair White or Black ($3500 in Walnut)

(42 1/4h, 6 1/4w, 8 1/2d, 90 dB SPL, 35 lbs)

It isn’t always easy to talk her into new speakers. Whether your old ones have worn out or you just want a fresh new sound, new speakers aren’t always easy to sneak in your room. We have found that money usually ISN’T the main problem. It’s usually size/space/style. Maybe we can help you out!

We have a luscious, sleek new solution that sounds silky smooth- Amphion’s Helium 520. This Finnish beauty has a sophisticated elegance in verve and euphony that you can’t get out of the Far East.

Amphion’s Helium 520 is first and foremost, a delightful, lithe sounding speaker. It creates a broad and deep soundstage. The image floats before you in the room with a strong center. It doesn’t have huge drivers and doesn’t play at clamorous volume levels. So what?! H520 is for a music lover who wants a broad panorama that is faithful to acoustic music.

Amphion’s slogan is “Beautifully Honest” and it befits all Amphion speakers including the lovely H520s. H520 is soooo skinny at 6 1/4” wide that you can shoe horn it into any room.

While its bass isn’t as robust as Amphion’s Argon 7LS ($7K per pair), you’ll be amazed at the fulsome sound from this slender profile. It doesn’t boom or muddle low level musical information- like the lower register of a grand piano or stand up bass. As you know, more bass isn’t necessarily better.

We have plenty of customers that want major league clarity with a spacious image, yet don’t want massive thunder. At just over six inches wide, Helium 520 is easy to place in any room, whether a home, condo or apartment. Finally we have an elegant, lean tower that is available with a myriad of aesthetic accents. Surely she’ll like one of them. Check out STYLIN’ below.

Titanium Tweeter

H520 has the same transparent Titanium tweeter as the rest of the Amphion lineup. H520 runs a pair of pulp fiber 5.25’s in D’Appolito configuration to produce Amphion’s renowned cardiod dispersion pattern.

Amphion Crossover

As with all Amphion speakers, the tweeter crosses over at 1600Hz to prevent it from sounding brash or harsh. High quality Mylar caps are used to dovetail the Titanium tweeter to the bass/mid drivers. Amphion uses silver plated copper wire to deliver speed without brightness.

Amphions sound less grainy, hence less loud and SHOUTY than the other guys. While Helium models are less expensive than Argons due to the use of pulp fiber bass mid drivers instead of aluminum, they adhere to Amphion principles of graceful design and sound beautiful.

Wave Guide Technology

With Wave Guide technology like its bigger brothers, you’ll hear the vast majority of the sound directly, instead of AFTER it has echoed off all the hard surfaces of your room. Ideally, you would hear all speakers without room reflections. Imagine sitting at the 50 yard line. Since none of us have perfect (good?) listening rooms, Amphion’s cardiod panorama gives it a leg up on everyone else for authentic sound in a real living room environment. With virtually every other speaker you hear as much information ringing off your walls as you do directly from your speakers. This “splash” masks musical detail and presents confusing spatial cues.

Stylin’

Helium 520 comes in three different (white/charcoal black/walnut) colors with 10 grid accent options (White, Black, Stone Gray, Traffic Red, Sky Blue, Turquoise Blue, Heather Violet, Heather Green, Sulfer Yellow, Beige Brown). Visit Amphion’s site. Pull up the model of your choice and check out the VARIATIONS options.

Our best sellers are walnut, and white with black grids.

Some customers ask why Amphion uses grids instead of cloth grills like everyone else. The answer is, the grid system allows breathy and more dynamic sonic details to emerge. Any cloth will create some diminution to the experience.

Amphion Helium 520C Center $1000 White or Black ($1150 Walnut)

(6.5h, 20w, 10.5d, 90 dB SPL, 22 lbs)

520c_white with black grids

H520C is the articulate matching center. With Wave Guide Titanium tweeter (of course) and two 5.25 pulp fiber bass mid drivers, H520C has the same clear and non fatiguing sound of all Amphion speakers.

H520C is a sage choice to run with any number of R&L front speakers as it offers top level voicing without introducing any bite or sizzle. H520 and H520C offers Amphion’s full palette of aesthetic colors.
