“Eigentakt” is a new amplifier technology you’re going to be hearing a lot about- SOON!
NAD is about to release new units with the Eigentakt design. Why should you care?

Purifi is a Danish company founded by Bruno Putzeys, Lars Risbo and Peter Lyngdorf. This hat trick of talent brings massive brain power to Purifi. This team has extensive experience in amplifier design and room correction circuitry. Purifi’s goal is to create state of the art amplifier technology that can be delivered to you affordably in an analog D design. Remember that Class D is an operating design of voltage and current, it doesn’t denote DIGITAL.

Purifi:

“While there are many good sounding amplifiers on the market today, Purifi has taken a fresh look at every aspect of amplifier performance and found many seemingly small nonlinearities that, when corrected, can make a dramatic difference in the overall sound. Advanced technology, well thought out PCB layouts and advanced mathematical modeling solve the last remaining limitations of audio amplifiers. The measured result is less noise and lower distortion, but the audible result is something more. The detail and transparency of the sound provide new levels of refinement at any volume level.
Eigentakt technology is very analog in behavior, in the unlikely event the amplifier is driven into clipping. Whereas traditional D designs can become unstable, Eigentakt behaves like the benign way of clipping with instant recovery of well executed traditional Class A/B amplifiers.”

NAD is among the first licensees from Purifi for the Eigentakt amplifier modules. NAD builds the modules and incorporates them into its products with its own secret sauce. The first of these products will be shipping approximately Oct 1, 2020.

C-298 Power Amp $2000 (185×2 or 620w mono)

We infer from this information that there will be additional licensees going forward, who may not treat it with the same TLC that NAD has. While Eigentakt is a good start, it’s indeed just the start. Teamed with NAD’s real world performance history, you can expect remarkable sounding amplifiers.

Eigentakt’s IM and THD numbers are virtually unmeasurable. The amplifier is comfortable with any impedance so you can drive the speakers of your choice without regard to its impedance curve or the length of cable. The NADs will bring uncluttered musical performance, sans artifacts.

Eigentakt will perform consistently up to the point of and including, clean clipping. It won’t have the ringing distortion of competitive designs. Most amps get rickety and go off the rails as they’re pushed hard. NAD claims its Eigentakt implementation will achieve precision and lack typical amplifier “haze” whether in midrange grunge or bass overhang/fuzz.
